Safeguard National Health & Safety Conference 2019

Dare to Dispupt

Description

A number of organisations are taking innovative approaches which place their workers at the centre of health and safety. This is also central to the emerging practice known as Safety II, which emphasises the study of normal work and a deep engagement with the people who do it.

Meanwhile, work itself is being upended by new technology such as AI, robotics and big data with its own health & safety threats and opportunities. And even the notion of who a worker is, is being challenged by the gig economy and the ‘uberisation’ of work.

Amidst all this change it is also clear that bullying and sexual harassment have now finally emerged as serious and pervasive mental health issues which organisations must now place firmly within a health and safety context, and not before time.

That’s why the 2019 Safeguard National Health & Safety Conference is titled ‘Dare to Disrupt.’ We’ll be looking at how the profession can rise to the challenge of changing the status quo, by innovating and doing things differently. We’ll be examining some of these changes and how those responsible for the health, safety and wellbeing of their people need to respond.

Our conference theme for 2019 is part-challenge, part-acknowledgment that the old way must give way to the new, and that change is always scary and exciting. The theme also challenges us as conference organisers to do things a little differently, to disrupt our own event as it were.
